Por que estudar história em Serviço Social?

Logo que iniciei o estudo da disciplina Fundamentos históricos , teóricos e metodológicos do Serviço Social I, no primeiro semestre, me fiz a pergunta acima. Nunca "morri de amores" pela disciplina de história na escola, decorar datas então era um martírio!
Porém aprofundando no estudo, percebi a tolice deste questionamento. Afinal, como compreender a trajetória que o Serviço Social fez até hoje, se não por meio da história? Estudar o contexto das revoluções Francesa e Industrial por exemplo, nos possibilita compreender o porquê do surgimento do Serviço Social.
Pois " Do ponto de vista da organização da sociedade, o homem deparou-se com novos problemas, que não poderiam ser solucionados pela antiga forma de ver o mundo. A realidade social sofreu transformações que exigiam uma nova forma de pensar bem como novas teorias que buscassem soluções para os problemas que surgiram em função do avanço industrial. É nesse contexto que surgem as ciências sociais e, em primeiro lugar , a sociologia. (Dias, apud Bogado Castelo Branco, p. 36, 2009)."
Assim, fica mais que evidente que, para embrenharmos no estudo de serviço social, conhecer a história é parte essencial de nossa formação.
